R. Kelly Makes History At Soul Train Awards

R. Kelly has just made Soul Train history.

Kelly became the most nominated act in the history of the Soul Train Awards this morning when he was nominated for the Album of the Year and the Ashford & Simpson songwriter’s award.

Kelly’s two nominations for the 2012 Soul Train Awards bring his career total up to 21 nominations. The singer may be the most nominated in Soul Train history but he doesn’t have the most wins. R. Kelly has taken home eight Soul Train Awards, including Best R&B Soul Album Awards in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004, during his career. Janet Jackson, who has been nominated 19 times, has the most wins at the award show with 13. Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, and Mariah Carey are the only other performers with more wins than R. Kelly.

It has to be noted that Usher, Estelle, Nas, Trey Songz, and John Legend are all up for multiple awards this year. Usher leads the nomination count with five.

According to the Canada Press, two late singers are also up for awards this year. Whitney Houston is nominated for best gospel inspirational performance and Amy Winehouse is nominated for best international performance.

It has to be mentioned that the Soul Train Awards will be taped on November 8th at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The show, which will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, will air on  November 25 on BET.
