Ann Curry Covering Nelson Mandela For NBC News

No doubt that the eyes of the world are upon ailing former South African president and vanguard of human rights Nelson Mandela (birth name: Rolihlahla Mandela). For that reason,  successful Correspondent/Anchor for NBC News Ann Curry is reportedly going to South Africa (New York Post announced the news on Wednesday) to cover on Nelson Mandela's health.

Since Curry, 56, leaving the morning show last year, she has contributed to the network's coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings, landed an interview with Libyan president Mohammed Magarief and filled in for Brian Williams on "Nightly News."

Mandela, 94, was hospitalized over the weekend for a recurring lung infection. He is reportedly in "serious but stable" condition. He has been in and out of the hospital for respiratory problems in recent months.

The network reported on Wednesday: "Nelson Mandela is responding to treatment; family is optimistic and relaxed about his progress, NBC News has learned."
