Djimon Hounsou Revs Up For "Fast & Furious 7"

Djimon Hounsou has been cast in "Fast & Furious 7.

According to Variety, the two-time Oscar nominee Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America) has joined the ever-expanding cast of the street-racing film, which will also welcome Jason Statham (he portrays the bad guy, as glimpsed during "Furious 6"'s credits cookie), Kurt Russell and female mixed martial arts fighter Ronda Rousey to the veteran Hollywood franchise.

It's not yet clear what role Hounsou, 49, will play, but the movie - which is a follow-up to this summer's hit "Fast & Furious 6" - will see the cast come back to Los Angeles after globe-trotting across the world in the past few films.

Franchise stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will also play in the seventh movie. Director James Wan is behind the lens of the film.

Hounsou was quoted as saying: "One of the things I would love to bring to it, having spent a lot of time in the horror/thriller/suspense genre is...I love tension, I love suspense and hopefully I can bring that. That would be my style that I would love to bring to the Fast franchise."

"Fast and Furious 7" opens in July 11, 2014.
