Tom Hanks Has Type 2 Diabetes

In a Monday night interview with David Letterman, Tom Hanks stated he suffers from type 2 Diabetes.

Hanks, 57, shared with the well-known TV host he has been diagnosed with the common form of the illness, which is the consequence of the body not producing enough insulin to function properly.

Hanks revealed he has been experiencing symptoms for 20 years but only just received the full diagnosis from a medical professional.

Hanks opened up about the disease after David Letterman commented on his weight and noted he was appearing relatively slimmer.

Speaking on the show Hanks was quoted as saying: "I went to the doctors and they said: "You know those high blood sugar numbers you've been living with since you were 36, well you've graduated, you've got Type 2 Diabetes young man"".

Tom's doctor has advised him to get back down to his high school weight of 98 pounds which he joked off as an unrealistic goal.

Hanks admitted: "Well it's controllable and through diet", adding: "My doctor said: "If you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy and not have type 2 diabetes."

Hanks confessed it is going to be a struggle to get rid of the extra pounds and concluded: "Well I'm going to have type 2 diabetes then."
