Clay Aiken Considers Run For U.S. Congress

According to reports, Clay Aiken considers making a run for the U.S. Congress.

According to the Washington Blade, Aiken, 35, is "actively considering" a campaign to represent his native North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Republican Renee Ellmers now represents the state's 2nd district, which the onetime "American Idol" finalist is said to be focusing on (along with other potential Democratic challengers).

Aiken has reportedly discussed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and met with pollsters, local strategists and political figures about a possible candidacy.

Aiken, who has not talked in public on his reported ambition in the congressional seat, has pursued activism and music in the decade since "Idol" rose him to fame.

Clay has until February 28 to file for the Democratic Party primary, which will be held in May.
