Brad Pitt On Morning Of First Academy Award Win: "I Cleaned Up Dog Poop In My Bedroom"

Brad Pitt received the Best Picture Oscar for "12 Years a Slave" appearing classy in a tuxedo, but his day started out less chic.

"I cleaned up dog poop today," Pitt, 50, revealed to reporters backstage after the win, adding: "In my bedroom."

Pitt talked proudly about the film he made alongside director Steve McQueen, noting it was a labor of love.

"I love this movie," Pitt was quoted as saying, explaining: "It's a heroic story of a man in an inhumane situation trying to get back to his family."

"It's important that we understand our history, not for any kind of guilt, but so we can better understand who we were, so we can better understand who we are," Pitt stated.

"At the end of the day, we just hope this film remains a gentle reminder that we're all equal, we all want the same - we want dignity and opportunity for ourselves and our family," Pitt explained, adding: "And that another's freedom is every bit as important as our own."

Pitt joked that McQueen was his date for the Oscars, but that he managed to meet up with partner Angelina Jolie - whom he called his "better, other-worldly half" - as well.

"We're all going to go out together and just enjoy the time. It's been a long run," Pitt claimed, sharing: "It's a very, very, very exciting moment for us.

"It's a real joy and something to ruminate on and really understand what it all means," Pitt went on.

Pitt shared that he and his co-producers were really proud to help bring the true story of the movie's main character into the spotlight.

"This is a film that has legs," Pitt noted, saying: "We're all going to be together (tonight) and just love each other up."
