Christopher Walken To Play Captain Hook In NBC's Live "Peter Pan" Musical Special

Christopher Walken will portray Captain Hook in the NBC musical special of "Peter Pan".

The network announced the news during the Television Critics' Association's summer press tour on Sunday.

NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt revealed to reporters: "He might really be a song and dance man at heart. He's fearless as a comedic actor and always comes to play."

"I guarantee you he's going to bring his own spin to Captain Hook," Greenblatt noted, adding: "He might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook."

Walken, 71, is the first and only cast member to be revealed for the production so far.

Walken previously began in the big-screen remake of "Hairspray" and this new play gets him back into collaborating with the movie's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Walken said in a statement: "I started my career in musicals and it's wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after Hairspray. It's a chance to put on my tap shoes again."

The gig, set to air live in December, follows last year's adaptation of "The Sound of Music" starring Carrie Underwood.
