Cory Monteith's Mom: "The Loss Is Horrendous" (VIDEO)

Cory Monteith's mom Ann McGregor spoke out about her son's tragic passing for the first time in an interview conducted Tuesday in Vancouver.

Monteith died of an accidental overdose last July and McGregor stated "the loss is horrendous."

"Until three days ago I couldn't look at a picture of Cory," she revealed to "Good Morning America," noting: "So there's been progress."

While Cory's mother can't discuss the night she learned of his death, she confesses that she is still in touch with Lea Michele.

"She texts me and emails me," McGregor shared, adding: "She is hurting too. You see the sadness. I know her pain."

McGregor recalled the first time Cory had an overdose.

"He did a code blue, and I think that was the turning point," McGregor went on, pointing out: "He had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out - lot of it was he really wanted a relationship with his father."

She added: "I think when a child gets invalidated they keep reaching even harder. They want to find out why."
