Joan Rivers In Medically Induced Coma

According to several reports, Joan Rivers was put into a medically induced coma on Thursday after she went into cardiac arrest while undergoing a throat operation on her vocal cords when the complications took place.

New York Daily News reported that doctors expect to bring Rivers, 81, out of the coma over the weekend.

At that point, they can figure out how much damage was provoked by the comedian's medical emergency.

Neither the coma nor Rivers' specific condition has been confirmed yet by personnel at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Earlier on Thursday, a rep for the treatment center revealed to reporters: "Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available."

New York Police Department officials called Rivers' condition "critical" when she was first rushed to Mount Sinai shortly after 9:30 in the morning.
