Amy Poehler On Will Arnett Split: "Divorce Really Sucks"

Amy Poehler opened up about her split from Will Arnett in her upcoming memoir "Yes Please," in which she explains how alone she felt during their divorce.

Just in case you have missed it, Poehler, 43, and Arnett, 44, went their separate ways in 2012 after nine years of marriage, with the actor filing for divorce almost two years later.

"Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air," Poehler wrote in an excerpt obtained by Hello! magazine, noting: "The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands."

Poehler claims the details of their separation are "too sad" and "too personal" to talk about, but points out: "When you are a person going through a divorce you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become." She goes on: "You aren't allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain."

The "Parks and Recreation" star, who is raising two children with Arnett, confesses that she is "proud" of how they take care of their kids, writing: "I am beyond grateful he is their father. I don't think a ten-year marriage constitutes failure," Poehler declares, adding: "Getting a divorce really sucks."

Poehler also speaks out about her romance with fellow comedian, Nick Kroll, explaining: "I have a boyfriend who knows how to settle me. He puts his hand on my chest and tells me boring stories." She is quoted as saying: "On one of our first nights together I woke up apologizing for my snoring and he pulled out two earplugs he had worn to bed so he could hear what I was saying. It was one of the most romantic gestures I have ever seen."

Amy Poehler's upcoming book "Yes Please" goes on sale on October 28.
