Mexican actress and singer Lorena Rojas died on Monday, February 16. She was 44.

According to Latin World Entertainment talent agency, the popular Mexican soap opera and movie actress passed away after losing her battle with cancer. Latin WE released a statement on Monday announcing Rojas' death.

The release claimed that Rojas was surrounded by her boyfriend, family members and pals at the time of her passing. News surfaced this past fall that Rojas' cancer had returned in her liver, after she first struggled with the illness in 2008 and again in 2012.

Rojas celebrated her 44th birthday on February 10, just days before she died. Lorena took to twitter to thank her fans and supporters for their birthday wishes and stated it was a "beautiful day."

The Mexican superstar also had an active music career, dropping three albums between 2001 and 2014.

Born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1971, Rojas began her career in the 1990s with "Alzcanzar una Estrena." She later had roles in "Azul Tequila," "El Cuerpo del Deseo" and "Pecados Ajenos." Her latest project was the series "Demente Criminal."

Just months ago Rojas had released a children's album called "Hijos del Sol."

According to Latin WE, the gorgeous star is survived by daughter Luciana. The Latin Post reported in October 2013 that she adopted the newborn in Miami, Fla. and her agency revealed that the little one will now be cared for by Lorena's sister, Mayra Rojas.
