Tyler Perry's Mother's Day Message

Tyler Perry made the shocking revelation that this is the first time in years that he "didn't wake up in tears" on Mother's Day.

It's been six years since his mom Maxine died and only now is Perry, 45, eventually able to wake up in "joy and full of gratitude." The comedian is also urging children who have had disagreements or issues getting along with their moms to "fix it" and put aside their differences, regardless of who may be right or wrong.

On Sunday, Tyler shared a lengthy message on facebook. He started: "Happy Mother's Day! I can honestly say that and mean it this year. The reason why it's been hard to appreciate it for the last few years, as many of you know, is because my mother died in 2009. This is the first Mother's Day in 6 years that I didn't wake up in tears, that I didn't wake up heavy, that I didn't wake up in sadness. This morning I woke up in joy and full of gratitude."

Perry noted that he is now "thankful for the 40 years that I had with her", adding: "So, God thank you for Maxine and for the 40 years of memories that are in my heart forever."

For all the kids out there who have mothers that are still alive and are struggling or have problems with them for whatever reason, the actor and filmmaker advised: "Find a way to fix it. Don't let someone you love slip away from this earth, and you have had a chance to say all you needed to say to them and you didn't. It's just not worth it. Swallow your pride, even if you know you are in the right. Say you're sorry and fix it. And if you're in the wrong, all the more reason to say you're sorry and mean it."

"Fix it please. Life is but a moment, and we all only get one mother. I assure you, if you take this advice it will go a long way in you having peace in your future," Perry added.

In case you don't know, Perry became a father in December as he welcomed son Aman Tyler with his longtime girlfriend Gelila Bekele.
